Mary Jo Sage has spent much of her life in the outdoors, often traveling to far parts of the globe. She is fascinated with the way our Earth functions and the varieties of people who inhabit it.
Mary Jo lives in Cincinnati, Ohio and spends her summers in a log cabin high in the mountains of central Colorado.
She started to paint as a teenager and has worked in many areas of art, including watercolor, fabric arts, and writing.
Mary Jo worked as a naturalist and Education Director for the Cincinnati Nature Center. After retirement, she has concentrated on watercolor, feeling that it best represents the fragility and transparency of natural objects. For the past few years, she has studied watercolor technique under the guidance of Ken Landon Buck.
Many of Mary Jo's paintings have been reproduced as Limited Edition Giclee prints and some also as 5"x7" art cards suitable for framing or use as notecards. Contact Mary Jo for purchase information.
Mary Jo's works hang in private collections across the country. Among the venues where she has exhibited are Cincinnati City Hall (2014), Kennedy Heights Arts Show (2014), Venue 222, Gallery Salveo, the Christ Church Gallery, the Cincinnati Women's Art Club Juried Show (2011), and at the Art Walks at the Essex Studios, now held five times a year.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"I am a watercolor artist, writer, and naturalist. My knowledge of the natural world enhances my paintings with realism and an understanding of the interrelationships of our world.
"Subtleties of light, color, and shape inspire me to try to capture our world with brush and paper in order to record the daily wonders to be found around us."
