With a lifelong interest in crafts and flower arranging and experience as a decorative painter, Gay wanted yet more art exposure. So she started taking watercolor classes with local artist Ken Landon Buck (and continues to do so to this day) and twelve years ago joined the Art Circle. “The shared interest and support of the group is one of the best things that has happened to me,” she observes.

A long-term educator, Gay was a teacher for 16 years, a curriculum supervisor for 11 years, and a principal in the Northwest School District for eight. But Gay’s family has always been the most important thing in her life. The mother of two sons, she is the grandmother of six.

An active community member, Gay has volunteered as the first woman president of the Finneytown Boosters and as the president of the Fleming Road United Church of Christ. She is an avid entertainer and has frequently treated her fellow artists to sumptuous luncheons in her home.

Her love of flowers and gardens is easily seen in her bright watercolor paintings which combine flowers, greenery, and interesting still life objects. “Some of the happiest times in my life have been spent in nature,” she adds.

Gay’s work has been shown in juried shows in Middletown, Ohio and Bonita Springs, Florida, and she has also exhibited at Fleming Road United Church of Christ, the Pendleton Art Center, and the Essex Studios Art Walks.
